Well, It Wasn't As Good
Well, It Wasn't As Good As The First Time. . . But could we really have expected Ward-Gatti II to match the brawl for the ages that we saw the first time? Arturo Gatti was in control of the fight from the start this time (nearly putting Ward away in the third round), using his speed and some smarts to aovid getting clobbered by Mickey Ward in close the way he was in their first fight back in May.
In the end, I guess I couldn't be terribly surprised at the way this bout turned out. After all, the difference in the first fight was a low blow by Gatti in one of the later rounds that cost him the decision. With a mistake-free fight tonight, it should have been predictable that Gatti would put this one away.
In any case, it looks like we'll see these two in the ring one more time. Gatti is looking forward to a title shot, but after that he said he'd be amenable to another match with Ward, and Ward says he wants a third bout too. Stay tuned.
