I'm No Fan Of Ethnic
I'm No Fan Of Ethnic Bean Counting, But. . . it's hard not to feel good at the news that Omar Minaya has become baseball's first Latin American general manager after being hired by the Montreal Expos. While I find it hard to revel in it as an ethnic milestone, it's still good to see someone like Minaya, a nice guy and true professional who has discovered all sorts of baseball talent in Latin America, get a chance to run his own shop. Then again, being GM of a team that baseball has targetted to shut down isn't the best of circumstances, but I'm sure Minaya isn't complaining. In any case, as the Expos wind down, Minaya is sure to get busy as other teams make last ditch efforts at acquiring some of the incredible talent that's stranded in obscurity in Montreal.
