A Return To Radio For Special K?
From DCRTV, a Washington blog that covers the local broadcast scene (no permalink): More On Mystery Morning Man For 94.7 - 8/16 - DCRTV first reported it last week. Now, Radio And Records chimes in: "Art Mehring, who had been doing morning sports and news on WARW/Washington, exits. WARW VP/GM Michael Hughes tells (R&R's Street Talk) that regular morning host Mark Kessler is on vacation and will return August 30. He'll soon be paired with a new permanent host." Could it be Tony Kornheiser? Hmmm. The site reported last week that Kornheiser has been in negotiaitons with Infinity Broadcasting to come on board the FM station's morning show. Local radio in Washington is an absolute wasteland (take it from someone who regularly listened to C-Span Radio on his former morning commute). It would get a lot better with Kornheiser back in the mix. Trackback PingsTrackBack URL for this entry: Listed below are links to weblogs that reference A Return To Radio For Special K?:
» Tony Kornheiser back on D.C. airwaves? from The Media Drop Tracked on August 17, 2004 01:28 PM CommentsLocal radio EVERYWHERE is an absolute wasteland. It's the American way. That's why I never drive off without my iPod and car stereo adapter. Posted by: at August 17, 2004 08:49 PM Mostly agreed on radio, but I actually like the 94.7 DJs as they are. And Brett Haber isn't bad. Posted by: at August 17, 2004 09:04 PM I don't particularly miss Kornheiser. He was an above-average interviewer, and I enjoyed many of his regular guests (especially David Aldridge and Stephen Hunter), but like many long-running programs, Tony became more and more of a shrill caricature towards the end of his run. Maybe he'll be better outside of the ESPN Radio fold, but I doubt it. Posted by: at August 17, 2004 09:30 PM I thought Mr. Tony was a great radio host and I knew a lot of people who had a standing three hour appointment to listen to him everyday. "The Internet Show" that he had was one of the best things I have ever heard, period bar none. Posted by: at August 19, 2004 01:22 AM Nice to see Tony doing something, after taking the last 2-3 months off from his column AND PTI. Posted by: at August 19, 2004 11:57 AM I listened to Tony for years and was crushed when he left. His wit and insight were the most entertainig Ive ever heard I cant wait for him to return to the airwaves. Posted by: at September 1, 2004 12:07 PM One person that would make me listen. Mr. Tony. That's it, that's the list. Posted by: at September 6, 2004 02:53 PM Tony was the only reason I listened to ESPN Radio. I started listening to Mike and Mike because I didn't want to miss the start of the Tony Kornheiser Show, and I usually ended up listening to The Dan Patrick Show because I was too lazy to change the station afterwards. I listen to ESPN Radio about 1/100th of the time I used to. Being in Iowa, I hope Tony finds it back into syndication somewhere and our local station picks him up. There is too much Rome around here. Posted by: at September 11, 2004 12:59 AM The saddest day I can remember was when Mr. Tony fell through the manhole cover into the abyss. It crushed my soul and his replacement is slurping it up. Whatever should I do. Please Oh caped One return to the airwaves so that I can be whole again. Posted by: at September 12, 2004 06:10 PM Please say it's so! When Mr. Tony left ESPN radio, he took with him one of the few unique voices out there. Whether discussing sports or "other stuff," he has a singular wit and intelligence, and I would make a point of seeking out his show wherever it turns up. In fact, the only reason I found this site was because I was googling TK to learn what he's been up to. Posted by: at September 30, 2004 08:17 PM I could not STAND T.K. when I first heard the show a few years ago. After a few months, it was part of my day,. I am on the road alot, and loved the show. Actually passed time. This guy that replaced him Collin Cowherd it worthless, I dont even turn his show ON anymore. The local Monkey agrees with me, says as soon as TK is back he will get him. Come back Tony, I miss the show! Posted by: at October 6, 2004 12:47 AM I'm still searching for Mr. Tony on the airwaves and on the internet. I gave Cowherd 1 month. He stinks.Bring back old guy radio and Andy PolleyAndy Polley Andy Polley Posted by: at October 27, 2004 02:40 PM Tony, Posted by: at November 2, 2004 09:37 PM Hello all, Tony is coming back locally for a 2 hour show. Starting on November 10th, he will be on each day from 9-11am. You can listen through the radio station's website. It is www.sportstalk980.com Posted by: at November 6, 2004 01:24 PM Yesssssssss! I just jumped up and down like a little kid after seeing the above post that Tony is A)coming back and B) I will be able to listen on the net. I was waching PTI tonight and heard him casually mention that the radio people are not his "ilk" but will be starting Wednesday. My ears perked up and I rewinded the DVR to make sure I heard it right. I just googled it to see if he was serious, and it looks like he was. Thank you Tony.
