Martinez To Cooperstown?
That's a question I posed to my friend Peter White over at Mariners Musings, concerning the Seattle DH who recently announced plans for his retirement.
Peter's answer was an unequivocal yes:
There is no one else in history to compare with Edgar Martinez. But just because he’s different, doesn’t mean he doesn’t belong in the Hall of Fame.
While I have my doubts, Peter raises a few points, and puntures a few misconceptions when it comes to Martinez that ought to factor into any discussion.
And congratulations to Pete on starting grad school, which will take him to Kentucky next week. God speed and good luck.
