NFL Europe On The Egg Timer?

In a little noted item, NFL Europe announced that it was folding the Scottish Claymores, leaving only five teams in the continent's developmental league.

Of the remaining five teams, four -- the Frankfurt Galaxy, Berlin Thunder, Rhein Fire and Cologne Centurions -- are in Germany. The only one outside Germany is the Amsterdam Admirals. The league also announced that the replacement for the Claymores will be located in Germany, in the city of Gelsenkirchen.

Why notice at all? Well, for one thing, much of the gameday crowd at NFL Europe contest consists of American troops and their families. But with the Pentagon planning to redeploy many of those troops back to the continental U.S. and other European nations, those German franchises might be living on borrowed time.

It's either that, or get ready to set up shop with the Gdansk Iron Men.
