» DESPERATE HOUSWIVES & MNF: BLACK AND WHITE from Population Statistic Tracked on November 17, 2004 10:20 PM CommentsMost of us know deep down that the Philly Eagles cheerleaders' calendar, and the NFL's last two season-opening concerts (Britney, Jessica) are part of the hypocrisy. Red states heap big on leggy majorettes and cheerleaders- h.s. Fridays, college, and pro. Posted by: at November 17, 2004 11:13 AM I came home once to find my wife watching the movie "Starship Troopers." In five minutes, I saw enough horribly violent scenes to make me physically ill. I asked her if they'd cut anything for broadcast (actually, I think it was cable). She said they blurred a brief glimpse of a woman topless. Thank goodness they did that. If they showed that sort of thing, then ... oh, I don't know ... teenagers might want to have sex. We're just really twisted about sex in this country. Granted, when you have politicians who campaign on family values and treat Washington like an escort service, what do you expect? Posted by: at November 17, 2004 08:30 PM Forgot to mention, though -- any sort of promotion that shifts the focus of "Desperate Housewives" from the four main stars to Nicollette Sheridan is NOT to be encouraged. That would be my excuse for protesting. Posted by: at November 17, 2004 08:32 PM *rolls eyes and sighs heavily*... Posted by: at November 17, 2004 08:55 PM Slightly OT, but Starship Troopers is probably the *one* movie you can't mention in this context, because Paul Verhoeven is actually known for his controversial anti-war statements in his movies. Starship Troopers is actually a parody that sarcastically displays extreme violence in the hope that it'll make people realize how bad it is. The sad part is that ST works so well as a straight violent movie, and the actual criticism is only implicitly stated. So most people don't even notice its intention. Only those that already know what the point is do. So, you could call it a failed anti-war movie :-T Posted by: at November 21, 2004 01:51 PM I am sick of sex having to be in EVERYTHING all the time..it's a football game get the sex out of it and get those slutty cheerleaders off the field. You wanna go watch naked or half naked people prostituting themselves (in reality thats what it is) then go to some dark nasty place where the dark nasty people go and keep it off TV and in the face of people all the time.
