Can I See Your Press Pass Please?

Off Wing reached another significant milestone earlier today when I was informed that my request for press credentials had been approved by the Washington Capitals. Me and my laptop will be in the press section for tomorrow evening's game against the Panthers, and I'll have a post-game wrap-up and maybe some other goodies as well.

As always, a victory for Off Wing is a victory helped along by my readers. Thanks for coming back and spreading the word. And see you tomorrow night from MCI Center.

Eric:

Was at the game last night with the Caps Dir. of Marketing. First, I thought the turnout was completely pitiful for the game until he reminded me of the fact that it was expected--when the NHL schedule was put together the Caps brass had requested that there be no homegames on the same night as Redskins home games, and especially not the night of the Cowboys. D.C.-area folks know how important Skins/Boys is. As such, he seemed fine with the fact that 7,500 people actually gave up watching the Skins for a nearly meaningless game between the Panthers and Caps. Or perhaps they were just in the neighborhood to eat at Tony Chang's and figured, "what the hell."

I mentioned to him that I was really impressed with the way that Leonsis has reached out to the blogging community by not only giving interviews to everyone under the sun (I saw that post on SharksPage last week), but also by inviting you up to the box recently for a game in order to give his perspective on the NHL. He seemed a bit surprised that I read blogs--I guess I don't seem "geeky" enough--but I think it reinforced the notion that blogs like this get good exposure with the real pucknuts out there and might help the ticket sales a bit.

Anyways, it was a pretty good game for the 7k that bothered to show up, and I'm convinced that Luongo could be the next Roy if he got with a solid team (Hello Vancouver/Colorado?). Any guy who stops 50+ shots to win 3-2 HAS to be special. Granted, the Caps shots weren't all glorious chances, but stopping an Ovechkin break is impressive enough. Furthermore, Kolzig didn't look bad either--he seemed to do a pretty good job controlling rebounds. It's a good thing he's content to play for a team in rebuilding mode like the Caps.

Awesome news. Off Wing Opinion is one of the best sites of its kind and look to the day where you have credentials with all of the clubs in the NHL.

Hey, if you want the full experience, I can start yelling that you're missing deadline. Next day, and there's still no report? Come on -- AP writers have to crank out something at the final horn, run down to do interviews and run back up to do the writethru that typically moves 90-120 minutes after the game.

(OK, seriously -- glad you got a chance to go. Must have been entertaining being up there with the stat crew handing out notices of the record shot count.)
