Army To Open Criminal Probe Into Pat Tillman's Death

The wheels of justice can grind slowly. But grind on they do.

From the AP:

The Army said Saturday it will launch a criminal investigation into the April 2004 death of Pat Tillman, the former professional football player who was shot to death by fellow soldiers in what previous Army reviews had concluded was an accidental shooting by members of his own unit.

Col. Joseph Curtin, an Army spokesman, said the Defense Department office of inspector general had reviewed the matter at the Army's request and concluded that a criminal probe was warranted.

I'm not surprised at this announcement at all. Here's one question we ought to ask: Would we be on the verge of a criminal investigation if all the parties involved had simply told the truth in the first place?

Here's another cynical question: Would we be on the verge of a criminal investigation if the soldier who was killed in the incident weren't a National Icon?
