Memories Of Shea, Memories Of The Jets
Thanks to both The Feed and Faith And Fear In Flushing for reminding me of one of the biggest wins in New York Jets history -- a 16-15 win over the Miami Dolphins On November 21, 1981 that put the Jets into first place in the AFC East for the first time since 1969.
How big was that win? Well, for some reason I remember my high school history teacher making sure it was one of the questions on our weekly current events test. For some reason, I remember that it was a 4:00 p.m. start, with the Jets marching downfield for the winning score -- a touchdown pass from Richard Todd to Jerome Barkum (Marty Glickman, the Jets play-by-play man back then always called him Gene and I never knew why) -- as night fell over Queens.
25 years? Was it really that long ago?
