"Anything you can do, I can do better," or so Penguins play-by-play man Paul Steigerwald suggests in his call of "the play." As a Caps fan, such homerism is annoying. As a hockey fan, I think it's great. The immediate comparison between Crosby's goal and Ovechkin's goal from last year (you know, theplay) gets even casual fans talking about the game.
Williams/DiMaggio. Russell/Chamberlain. Ovechkin/Crosby. Intense player rivalries that enable fans to ask the unanswerable question, "Who's better?" are rare. And when the teams they play for are regional rivals, it's even more special. Yet another reason why the league should do everything they can to keep the Penguins in Pittsburgh.

If I'm Mario, I'd remind Sidney that it was a great play, but stay the heck out of the way of the goalpost next time! I can just imagine him wrecking a knee (or worse) when he slides through the net doing that.
Still a great...make that smart...play.

Wow, did he start dropping to a knee before the pass was made? It's like he already knew the only way he'd get a shot off was to lay out.

PUH-lease!
Doesn't even hold a candle to "The Goal"
Check the video tape.
They've both scored many nicer goals than that one.

Color me unimpressed--Crosby wasn't getting hauled down by a defenseman. Besides, while looking on YouTube to see if Brash's goal from last night was posted yet, I found this eerily similar goal by Brashear when he was with the flyers:
