As Cold as Home

As a kid growing up in Massachusetts many winters were spent outside, skating on ponds and backyard rinks when it was cold enough and the ice was thick enough. Unfortunately with winters getting milder and my moving south to DC for school, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to get any time on natural ice. To make matters worse, I spent Martin Luther King Day walking around in shorts. Capitalweather.com read the temp at 2 a.m. on Tuesday as 64 degrees.

But to my relief the last couple days have been horribly cold. With freezing lows came hope that pond skating - or at least outdoor rink skating - will be possible in DC. And with washingtonpost.com forcasting freezing lows through monday, I'm anxious to see how it affects the outdoor rinks I've found at skatedc.org.

Nothing feels better than gliding on natural ice bundled up against the cold breeze. And with that in mind, come this weekend, I'm gonna be looking to get in some ice time somewhere outdoors.
