What's Wrong With Alex Ovechkin?
I'm still sitting here with the family on Long Island watching the Caps and the Pens, and it looks like we're getting some conflicting reports on the condition of Alex Ovechkin, who left the game earlier tonight with an undisclosed injury.
The broadcast team on HDNet reported earlier tonight that Ovechkin had suffered a back injury. Yet, just a few minutes later, that same HD crew reported that Caps PR denied that Ovechkin had a back injury, merely adding that he would not be available if the game went to a shootout. Given the team's track record when it comes to revealing a player's injury status, I'm wondering whether or not we'll ever get official confirmation as to what's really going on.
UPDATE: Per Tarik, Alex is fine, and the wound is superficial. The team says he's expected to play against Ottawa. Brent Johnson on the other hand, is out for 2-4 weeks.

Ovechkin came in and put a hit on Letang right after Letang cleared the puck up the ice. After the hit, Letang pivots to his left and as he fell, his left leg came up and his skate made contact with the inside upper thigh of Oveckin. The Pittsburgh broadcast had the video isolated after the game.
Washington's Comcast SportsNet reported he had a cut on his leg and the doctor could not arrive in the locker room in time to get AO back on the ice.

Johnson out? I shed no tears. I'm not his biggest fan. So, is the goalie in Hershey going to finally get his shot?

Been able to watch the last 2 Caps games on NHL Extra from Fox Sports Bay Area. Out of the 30 NHL out of market games they are going to air, 16 of them are Washington Capitals games. Haven't seen Allen Clark on rinkside yet.
