Wednesday's Blogging Roundup

Damn those Boston Bruins! They held a 2-0 lead over Carolina for nearly 59 minutes last night, then stupid Tim Thomas had to give up 2 goals in 20 seconds to let the 'Canes force overtime. I love my Bruins, and Boston still won, but can't they at least help the Caps at the same time and deny Carolina ANY points? Jeez.

And the big news, albeit unfortunate for all you single ladies, is that Ovie is now off the market. According to Amy Argetsinger and Roxanne Roberts of the Post, AO met his new girlfriend online. They connected through a mutual friend on "Odnoklassniki, a Russian equivalent of Classmates.com or Facebook".
Apparently Ovie is one heck of a romantic.

He won her over with phone calls, teddy bears, roses. "He'd send me a [text message] 10 minutes before the start of the game, and even in between during the breaks, [saying] 'Thinking of you' or 'Honey, I scored this goal in your honor.' "

As DCSportsChick points out at OFB;

The girly girl in me thinks that’s incredibly sweet. It’s also a cute way to sweep someone off her feet; who wouldn’t be thrilled to have a goal scored in her honor? I just hope he’s not too distracted, what with the pre-game and intermission texting.

I imagine it's tough for someone so famous to find someone that likes them for them, and not their fame. So here's hoping Ovie's found the right one, and that he continues to score goals in her honor. You know, I think she'd be even more impressed with a division championship. So how 'bout it Ovie?

Now back to the task at hand. The Islanders drift into the VC tonight to face off against the Caps. The Isles are a bit banged up, as evidenced by Mike Vogel's pregame injury list.

Injuries New York Islanders Defenseman Brendan Witt has a sprained knee and is out 1-2 weeks. Defenseman Chris Campoli underwent shoulder surgery and is out indefinitely. Defenseman Bruno Gervais has a strained oblique muscle and is day-to-day. Defenseman Andy Sutton has a torn hamstring and is out 4-6 weeks. Center Shawn Bates underwent hip surgery and is out indefinitely. Center Mike Sillinger has a hip injury and is out indefinitely. Left wing Jon Sim had reconstructive knee surgery and is out indefinitely. Left wing Blake Comeau has a head injury and is day-to-day.

For the Caps Lepisto and Fehr have been returned the Hershey. Lepisto impressed in his only game, but according to Tarik Tom Poti will be back in the lineup, leaving Lepisto the odd man out. And with Fehr gone, Laing gets his regular spot on the 3rd line back. He may not produce offensively, but he's been a plus player in 24 of 25 games, meaning he's no defensive liability either.

There is one thing the Caps need to do, both tonight and for the rest of the season, and it's to have the lead after 2 periods. JP did some research and found that "the Caps are 18-0-1 when leading after two and 0-22-2 when trailing heading into the third."

Also, congrats to Ovie on making the cover of The Hockey News and getting some love from Michael Farber.

CapsChick didn't say that, I did. (Though she may agree with me.) ;-)

How right you are; my apologies. DCSportsChick writing about the Caps; CapsChick - you can see where it's easy to go too fast and misread. I'll make sure to get it right in the future.
