Masters Notebook
Now that Martha Burk has lost her legal challenge to protest at the gates of Augusta National, and Hootie Johnson has had his publc say over the club's membership policy, it's time to play some golf. The first round starts later today, and you can find the pairings here. Live, commercial free coverage of the first two rounds of the tournament will be broadcast in the U.S. on the USA cable network. Of course, most of the attention is on Tiger Woods, as he attempts to win his third straight Masters. Sometimes I wonder whether or not the American press gives Woods a pass on stuff that other golfers would get deep-fried for. Here's something I picked up from The Daily Telegraph on Tiger's admittedly strained relationship with Phil Mickelson: [B]ut if there's something here this week, or any week, without the slightest chance of sitting comfortably together, it's the relationship between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. When it comes to prickly, a Scottish gorse bush isn't in the same league. Will somebody tell me why I never heard about this on Sports Center?
