NHL Roundup

With a one-day absence to pay attention to the World Juniors out of the way, the NHL Roundup returns.

Jamie McLennan had 36 saves in Calgary's 5-0 demolition of the Rangers. The win snapped a three-game winless streak for the Flames, who are an impressive 9-5-0-2 away from home this season. Calgary is third in the Northwest Division with 46 points, trailing Vancouver by six, but with three games in hand. When it comes to the Rangers, Cliff at Hockeybird is spitting bullets, and counting down the days until Glen Sather gets the Scott Layden treatment from upper management.

Who needs Sergei Fedorov on your roster when Kris Draper was just waiting for his chance to become a star? Draper had two goals last night, his 17th and 18th of the season, in Detroit's 6-0 win over Nashville. The Predators had won the previous three meetings between the teams this season. Another former Detroit role player, Jason Wolley (ex-Caps defenseman), had two goals and an assist. With 57 points, Detroit leads the Central Division over St. Louis by seven. It was just another day in Jersey as the Devils beat Edmonton 3-2 in OT on a Patrick Elias deflection. Martin Brodeur had 23 saves in the win. The Devils now have 50 points, and trail Philly by three in the Atlantic Division, but have two games in hand. The misery continued in Pittsburgh, as they were roughed up 5-0 by Toronto. On ESPN's NHL2Night last night, both Barry Melrose and Darren Pang think Canadian Junior and Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury needs to be sent back down to his junior team after a very brief stop back in Pittsburgh. Steve Ovadia has his own thoughts.

In Vancouver, Patrick Marleau scored the game winning goal in a 2-1 Sharks win over the Canucks. With 48 points, San Jose leads the Pacific Division by six over LA and Dallas. In St. Louis, the Wild and the Blues delivered Sominex on ice in a 1-1 tie. Dwayne Roloson, who plans on naming all of his male children Jacques in gratitude for the coach who has made his career, had 23 saves.

And in a match between two sputtering clubs, Anaheim and Dallas tied 2-2. Dallas, which has been disappointing all season, at least leads the league in killing penalties, at 87.7 percent.
