Masters Week
With the Martha Burk show apparently moving on (though I'm sure she'll stick her head up once a year from here till eternity until Augusta admits a female member, all the better to be there to take credit for it), the focus this year at Augusta National will be on golf and golf alone. While the official Web site for Augusta doesn't look terribly pretty, it's still packed with lots of useful and interesting features for the golf fanatic. Click here for the latest audio interviews from Augusta. Click here for a walking tour of the course. And if you'd like to get scoring information on this year's event delivered to your mobile phone or PDA, click here to set things up. Issue #1 right now has to be Tiger Woods' perceived slump, an issue he took up yesterday with Clifton Brown of the New York Times: "The scrutiny has been amazing. It's not like I've fallen off the planet. It's not like I haven't won in two years. It's not like I'm missing cuts. I mean, I've already won once this year, and it wasn't exactly an easy tournament to win. I'm certainly going to try to win every week, and believe me, it's not from a lack of effort. But you know what? These players out here are very good. And golf is very fickle." According to the sport's own ratings system, the gap between Woods and the rest of the field, in particular the noxious but skilled Vijay Singh, has close considerably -- an issue recently taken up by Blogger Vance. And speaking of Mr. Singh, the upcoming made for TV Battle of the Bridges has had the mind behind the Golf Blog thinking about other pairings he'd like to see in match play: Here's my dream match-up: Tiger and Michelle Wie or Annika Sorenstam versus Vijay Singh and Greg Norman or Fuzzy Zoeller. And the gallery claps politely. Here, here. For other golf-related commentary, be sure to check out Bunker Mulligan And thanks to Skip Oliva for this little aside on the Internet and PGA scoring.
