"I'll take my fine like a man."

So said Denver Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer, after he re-applied a sticker with former teammate Pat Tillman's no. 40 on the back of his helmet in time for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.

The NFL has said that any player that violates the league's uniform guidelines will be fined $5,000 for each infaraction. If the NFL knows what's good for it, that money will be earmarked for a charity in Tillman's honor. And if it isn't, people ought to let them know about it.

Having bitched the other day about the rush to demand a league award in Tillman's name, I will say that in this case, I'm completely behind Plummer and Eric's suggestion. Plummer is violating a league rule, but the league has the discretion not to enforce it, and if a player wants to honor his fallen colleague, I see nothing to be gained by imposing a fine.
