More On Steroids
From yesterday, here's the Baseball Crank with an exhaustive post on baseball and steroids that's definitely worth your time. Most importantly, the Crank takes a moment to dissect Will Carroll's New York Times op-ed on the subject -- an effort by Carroll that I found sloppy and dishonest at points when I first read it in December. Elsewhere, Nick Schulz has returned intermittently to Transition Game. Click here for his response to some of George Will's latest comments on Barry Bonds and Hank Aaron's home run record, as well as here for Nick's own take on steroids: A very good source of mine at the US Department of Justice alerted me many many months ago that the feds had the dirt on Bonds and other players that they used prohibited substances. At the time, even though I suspected players like Bonds might have been juiced, I was a little taken aback. But over time, as the realization sunk in, I found that I just didn't care that much. In fact, this last baseball season, I was interested in seeing Bonds above all players -- maybe in part because I knew he was or at least had been using banned substances. Inside that post, you'll also find links to a pair of pieces by Doug Kern (one from TCS the other from New Atlantis) that are also worthwhile.
