More Trouble For Italian Football

The Juventus match fixing scandal continues to spread:

Italy's Football Federation, shaking from match-fixing allegations, is set to be placed under emergency administration just 24 days before the start of the World Cup finals.'

The country's national Olympic committee (CONI) met on Tuesday to discuss plans to place an emergency administrator in charge of the Federation.

Federation president Franco Carraro and his vice-president Innocenzo Mazzini both resigned last week as the match-fixing allegations spread.

Italian media reported that Guido Rossi, a 75-year-old former head of the stock market regulator Consob, had emerged as the preferred candidate to take over the Federation.

This story coming out of Italy reminds me a lot of the way the steroids in baseball story developed here in the U.S. For a lot of years, plenty of people knew what was going on, but decided to look the other way. And after reading a passage from The Wisdom Of Crowds the other day, I can't help but think that's the case in Italy as well.
