Caps Up-End Minnesota Wild, 4-1

It has been more than five years since Minnesota has played in Washington. In November of 2002, it was Minnesota on the winning end of that game. With the help of Brooks Laich's two goals, the Caps scored a big win against the Wild (4-1).

None of the Cap's new players were suited up tonight against the Minnesota Wild, that will have to wait for later this week.

See more photos from the game soon by visiting our Photoshelter gallery or our Flickr gallery.

Getty Images In My Rearview Window

This Monday the private equity firm of Hellman & Friedman bought Getty for a cool $2.4 billion. You can read more about the details as they were released yesterday from Hellman & Friedman.

As a refugee from the heady Internet days and the Telecom mergers there are a few things I have learned after being bought, sold and merged more times than I can recall. First off, what this really means probably won't get sorted out until later this year or early in 2009. The deal isn't supposed to close until the second quarter of this year.

Secondly, don't ever buy the phrase, "we are different, a merger of equals." I laugh when I hear that one, there is always a buyer and the one being bought. In this case Hellman & Friedman bought Getty, we won't know what the "New Getty" looks like and how it operates.

Photographer and blogger John Harrington has been following Getty's moves and photo industry impact over the past couple of years and did some "crystal balling." Today he posted his insights which on the whole I agree with.

Hang on for another year of big changes in the business of photography.

Little Big Men Play Ball

Here are some highlights from a game that my son played in yesterday. I didn't know the team names so we will keep it as Red vs. Yellow.

For the photographers, lighting is tough in the elementary gym that I shot in. I was shooting wide open at 2.8 with a shutter speed of 1/250. I then set the camera to variable ISO, the ISO varied from about 640 - 1600. Shooting in RAW also gave the ability to brighten it up some more in post processing.

Test of offline blog editor

Something I have come across is a blog editor that would allow me more flexibility when writing for OffWing and OffWing Photo. Let's See how this works. I probably should have looked for something like this a long time ago. Do any of you have any experience using a blog editor? If so I would love any comments or recommendations you have. I work from a Mac, but share you PC editors too, it might help another reader.

Apple Introduces Aperture 2.0

Aperture is Apple's pro photo management application that I use. Today Apple announced version 2.0 which I am excited to try out for myself.

Early reviews claim big improvements in speed which will make any photographer happy with.

For more information a great resource is the Aperture Users Professional Network (AUPN), they have a lot of great resources for photographers and illustrators that use Aperture.

AUPN will be a great place to check in over the next couple of weeks as more and more people work with the latest release and report their impressions.
